Better Know a Tumblr
Three little-known facts about Mandalay:
- Her apartment is jewel-like and super-chic: robin’s egg blue walls set off by white crown molding and a gorgeous painting of a sultry New Orleans night by James Michalopoulos.
- She takes Flintstones daily vitamins.
- No question she’s genetically blessed, but that hair don’t come easy: homegirl works for the sexy. She has two hair-dryers and six brushes of myriad sizes and shapes. (But it’s really all in the technique.)
* Bonus tidbit: she is one of the nicest girls you could ever hope to meet.
I find it amusing that there are Slim Jims, Pop Rocks & Sugar Daddies for sale in one of the House of Representative’s office buildings.
I’m bouts to go advocate the fuck outta the NY delegation.
Got my networkin’ shoes on!
I’m at the Apollo Alliance green jobs conference in DC for the next three days. I’ll be posting interesting things I hear about the emerging sustainable economy at 2050AD.org.
The 1,474 megapixel photo of the inauguration
You have to see it — and find yourself in the crowd! (Captured therin: Yo-Yo Ma snapping a pic on his iPhone. Unfortunately, Renee and I were out of range to the right.)
Read about the making of the photo here. (“It took more than six and a half hours for the Gigapan software to put together all of the images on my Macbook Pro.”)
At the We Are One concert at Lincoln Memorial two days before the inauguration, I asked a couple dozen people this question: What does the election of Barack Obama mean to you?
The floor-length fur coat was the look in DC over the inauguration. I have it on good authority that it’s “so Chicago.”
Purple Ticket Turmoil Explained: What Happened On Inauguration Day
The good news is a consolation prize is in the works.
“Perhaps the greatest song ever written about our home….”
I don’t think Woody Guthrie could have imagined that this song would be sung on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the new President. Pete Seeger, who rode the rails with Guthrie during the Great Depression, included pro-workers’ rights lyrics that are often left out.
It was such a powerful moment (even though I was cold and tired and cranky).
