Counting Crows, “Anna Begins”
I like this song, a lot.
“She’s talking in her sleep / it’s keeping me awake / … and every word is nonsense but I understand.”
Damn. That gets me every time.
And I have a lot of affection for Adam Duritz and the boys, the kind of affection you have for your old college guy friends, who are, let’s be honest, kinda pathetic, but you know they’ll make really good husbands some day whenever they figure themselves out.
But then at the end of the song, Adam sings:
“Her kindness bangs a gong / it’s moving me along.”
… and I know I will never, ever be able to take the Counting Crows seriously. Same goes for the old college guy friends.
