For Secret Santa, I picked Jane and “pride” out of the hat. (And I was very pleased to get both!)
I immediately went on Etsy and searched for “peacock.”  Dear, damn Etsy — there was more than 5,000 results!
But I muddled through, and chose this print by Carambatack, a Norwegian artist who works on the pages of 19th century books.  She sent it quite speedily in that charming package.
I also chose this little peacock pocket mirror — so Jane could steal glimpses of her pretty self and grin with pride.
And then a box of paperwhite bulbs — also known as narcissi — that will bloom quite snootily in 6-8 weeks.
Finally, a record I picked up (literally) on the street: Billy “Crash” Craddock’s 1979 white bread classic, “Laughing and Crying Living and Dying.” Because nothing says (misplaced) pride like muttonchops and gold medallions against a thick carpet of chest hair.
