sarazucker:

more than twenty top designers (including betsey johnson, michael kors, diane von furstenberg, marc jacobs, karl lagerfeld, carolina herrera, and zac posen) have pooled their talents together to sketch mind-blowing options for michelle obama’s inaugural ball gown. though some sketches were shown in wwd on monday, michelle’s top choices declined to participate in the published article.
thus, that leaves options open for a final frock designed by jason wu, narciso rodriguez, thakoon, or maria pinto. obama has consistently chosen young designers and eye-popping looks for her events, so i’m excited to see who she will choose. either way, many involved are staying mum.

Clicking through the slideshow was maybe the most fun I’ve had all day, if you discount the moment at an Earth Institute forum when I seriously thought I had met my soulmate (only to notice he had a ring on his left hand — not so fun).
I especially loved the designers who imagined complimentary outfits for the girls, like Isaac Mizrahi and Oscar de la Renta,* below.  I hope she wears Thakoon; she always looks fantastic in his designs.  Though something by Narciso Rodriguez would surely show off her gorgeous shoulders.

* She obviously can’t wear de la Renta because he’s always outfitting the Bushes.  She’s way cooler than that.
