A NOLA wedding at The Elms on St. Charles, where my dear friends Katie & Chris are getting married next April. Now to convince them to get Kermit to play!
I love the traditional “cake pull” or “ring pull”: unmarried women pull ribbons out from under the cake. Attached are charms; one is a ring, representing the next girl to get married. They did this at the ridiculously decadent wedding of a Brennan daughter that I attended with my friend Shane (oh god! the food at that wedding … epic!).
They also do ring pulls in Argentina. At the wedding of my then-boyfriend’s friend to an Argentinian woman in summer 2007, I pulled the ring — and looked over at my guy and thought no frickin’ way.
The tradition may be bogus but it sure is lovely.
UPDATE: my friend just said, “that’s Maggie XX, class of 05, former Pi Phi President.” Um, I WAS a Pi Phi (albeit briefly), class of ‘04. Wouldn’t have recognized her if my Pi Phi pin depended on it.
I am the worst sorority girl ever-ever. (And proud to be.)
