I am working constantly. When you work, you must focus and work only; then you can work less and accomplish more. When you play, focus to play only, then you will have more fulfilled relations or pleasure. When you rest or relax focus on just that, then you will be rejuvenated always. In other words if you devote yourself to the experience at hand, your life will be extremely well balanced, accomplished, and more fulfilled.

I’m working on this in my life: devoting myself to the quadrant that I am in.  Not letting work and play (both mindful and mindless) bleed into each other.

Nota bene: leisure activities, like going dancing, cooking, and reading for pleasure, are in Quadrant Two, the space of leadership.  Mindful recreation is, in the words of Robert Gass, “re-creation.” The key there is the mindfulness part. Project Runway doesn’t leave me enlightened and/or refreshed and ready to tackle my work. Which is why I chug through my inbox when it’s on. I am very good at justifying my Tim/Heidi/Nina fix. ;)

Related: a very busy friend recently recommended David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” as his essential time management system and Merlin Mann’s 43 Folders Series for high-volume inbox management.  I’ve read through some of Allen’s free guides and found them pretty helpful.
