Obama wouldn’t announce on Friday, right? And surely not a Friday afternoon? News cycles and low attention periods and blah blah blah mass media blah blah, but really — he’s not gonna do this thing on Friday. Even if it is Tim Kaine.

I firmly believe it’s going to happen today. He is slated to appear with his running mate tomorrow at a rally in Springfield, IL, and will make the announcement in advance.

I don’t think he’ll do it on a Saturday morning. My prediction is today, around the lunch hour, so that it’s well in advance of the evening news cycle. Which it will, of course, dominate. And then the Springfield rally and analysis of his choice will dominate the news through the weekend and into Monday, setting the stage for a full week of DNC and only DNC. Unless it turns out McCain in fact has 12 houses, in which case he’ll be gifted with all the headlines he wants.
