It’s really a fight for the soul of the profession.

Brad Olson, a psychologist at Northwestern University, who has circulated a petition among members of the American Psychological Association to place a moratorium on consulting with the military and CIA on interrogations.

Psychologists “have played a central role” in interrogations, which includes closely studying suspects, “looking for mental quirks,” and helping to decide “when a confrontation is too intense, or when to push harder.”

At its national meeting taking place now in Boston, the APA is debating whether involvement in interrogations is ethical. (NYT)
