Minnesota Politics and the Dark Alley Doctrine

Below, boutofcontext (Chris) responds to my earlier post. I’m pleased and chuckle loudly (god, he’s funny), and think:

There are certain posts that I write, essentially, for Chris, my dad, and Matt Lehrer. This was one of them.

NoraLeah spit hot fire in a skim-daringly-long post on MN state politics. Starting with that faithful morning in ‘98 when a small band of Minnesotans, hopped up on Maple syrup and Lutheranism elected ‘the Body’ Governor, she provides anecdotal analysis up to present-day.

In response, I’d like to offer some random, name-droppy tidbits of limited interest:

I support Al Franken’s campaign. I even personally spoke to (okay, accosted) his wife (I think) about volunteering, but it didn’t come together - something about already having a campaign manager, one with more “experience.”

Back when my life was interesting (~2004), I spent a night drinking in Boston with a couple other political-organizers-in-training (the career path I thought I was on) and Jeff Blodgett. He seemed to have just gotten over the loss of Wellstone and spoke optimistically of the Kerry 2004 campaign, to which he was a Senior Advisor.. ::sigh::

Nora, when you encountered Coleman at 17, by Minnesota law, you weren’t technically underage, at least, not for that.

Finally, when Jesse Ventura asks who you want on your side when walking down a dark alley - the answer is Jesse Ventura, especially if he asks in person.
