Andrea and I are looking forward to Gonzo, a documentary on Dr. Thompson.
I’m especially interested in the making of Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail (1972).
“As far as I was concerned, there was no such thing as off-the-record,” Thompson wrote, “Unlike most other correspondents, I could afford to burn all my bridges behind me.”
And burn them he did, even starting “a rumor in Milwaukee” that Senator Muskie was tripping on Ibogaine.
“It was the most accurate and least factual account of that campaign,” Frank Mankiewicz, a McGovern campaign strategist, said.
