Those were heady times….
Sunday to Monday, just this week. I ate well. Stupidly well.
Sunday supper: the hipper-than-hip pop-up restaurant What Happens When that was funded in part with help from Kickstarter (how hip is that?).
Monday lunch: Jean Georges, holder of three Michelin stars — and the greatest lunchtime steal in the city.
Monday dinner: a five-course spring lamb feast created by Chef Santos, the man who’s going to put Hotel Griffou on the must-must map of New York City.
Which is all to say: forgive the food porn but you know I can’t resist. I’ll mete it out slooooowly…..
First up: What Happens When’s Movement 2 dinner (the menu will change every month in the nine months the restaurant will be open). I had the smoked hen egg* and a big bowl of pork: loin wraps, headcheese croquette, and slabs of belly. The former was similar, but inferior to, a dish at Aldea; the latter was similar, but inferior to, several menu items at Fatty ‘Cue.
However — the meal as a whole was very good and Just Plain Fun:
hipper-than-hip people watchin’!
a good ol’ fashioned dessert cart!
complimentary aperitif and digestif!
whimsical little birdies!
(WHIMSICAL LITTLE BIRDIES!)
Anyhoo … recommended! I shall go again in summer, I think.
* Sidenote and Serious Question: when did it get cool to call chickens hens?
