They lost that unfortunate “!” and got ever so much better: Panic At The Disco’s “Nine in the Afternoon.” The video matches the song in raucous merry-making with just a tinge of existential angst.
As Cajun Boy pointed out, it’s got a NOLA/Mardi Gras feel, but what makes it fresh (and worth watching full-screen) is that the parade is viewed through a prism of Beatles psychedelica; there’s a Sgt Pepper marching band, “Hard Day’s Night” fangirl-crazies, and trippy Yellow Submarine elements.
And there’s even an elephant-headed man which is, for a pachyderm lover such as myself, in equal measure arousing and frightening.
About the song: it makes me want to tear down the street scattering spare change and sticking unnaturally colored carnations in strangers’ lapels. I love the line, “Losing the feeling of feeling unique — do you know what I mean?” Yes.
