I love misheard lyrics stories. I thought that Ace of Base was singing “I’m for the boys” for at least several weeks. QUESTION: Can anyone solve the R-E-S-P-E-C-T question for me? What does Aretha say? “Take out the PCT?” So that leaves RESE ? I don’t get it. HELP.Five-year-old me thought there was a character in this song named “Brenda Renetti.” […]
Okay, this is incredibly embarrassing to admit, but I thought that the lyric was “Brenda Renetti” until LAST MAY when I saw a Billy Joel cover band perform and the singer properly enunciated “Brenda and Eddie”. I also thought that the lyric to Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girl” was “You make me supersonic, supersonic” instead of “You make me suicidal, suicidal”. […]
I spent hours thinking about this as a teenager, before Google.
Post-Google, I learned that it’s “take care, TCB.” TCB stands for “taking care of business,” which makes more sense than Katie’s interpretation (which I shared). But still, it’s reduntant: I mean, “take care, taking care of business”…??
Also: “sock it to me” is TOTALLY ABOUT SEX.
And: you mean Sean Kingston isn’t singing about contemplating suicide? This is news to me. “Supersonic” is sooo not as romantic as “suicidal.” (I also thought it was “you’re beautiful, girl, that’s why you’ll never work,” which I just thought was an awful message to be sending to young women, beautiful or not.)
