This song makes my heart sigh, turn over, and wince a little as it settles back down (a good thing). That line? “Goodbye is too good a word.” Oh man.

But I can’t pretend it’s just the bittersweet lyrics; the boy I lost my virginity to did a frankly terrific hard-blues cover of it at a school concert weeks after he dumped me.  The heart-break was so consuming that the lashes of one eye fell out. He burned the melody into my memory.

I just don’t have the energy (or time) for that kind of melodrama anymore, though my heart is still a tender muscle, malleable, and ever close to the skin (if not worn on my sleeve).
