There’s also a perceived notion that the celebrity culture has had an influence over these girls, whether it’s the glorification of Britney Spears and her kids or [cut off by reporter].

Ray Lamont, editor of the Gloucester Daily Times, speaking to the BBC about the teen girls who entered in the so-called pregnancy “pact.”

Sure, it’s pure speculation, but this is precisely the thing I’ve been (mildly) concerned about for a few years now, as an older sister and cousin to bright, but impressionable, young women.

Leaving aside Britney, who even young girls know is a hot mess, seeing the likes of Ashlee Simpson, Jessica Alba, and Nicole Ritchie have children so young might not bode well. I have no idea what it would be like to grow up with these young women as influence. (I also have no idea what it would be like to grow up in a world where the most popular gilrs routinely flash their vaginas. Oh, I weep….)

Granted, my sister, cousins, and most girls are smart enough to recognize that pregnancy/motherhood is not a glamorous little hobby. But good sense does not always reign, as the Gloucester girls have proven.
