The sole distraction of the day: a preview of PBS food series “Spain … On The Road Again.”

The unmatched Mario Batali, my man Mark Bittman, a very urbane and relaxed Gwyneth Paltrow, and Spanish star Claudia Bassols take a roadtrip across Spain and eat, eat, EAT.  This show looks soooo good!

When I studied in Spain at age 13, I was enthralled with the food: super-bloody blood-and-rice sausage, tiny eels (which will set you back $100 at Le Bernadin), squid in its own ink, these amazing potato, cheese, and ham balls.  Literally unforgettable.

PS: Gwyneth has one helluva Castellano accent (the lispy kind of Spanish).  The teachers in my Spanish Immersion school were primarily Latin American, and I inherited their snootiness about Spanish Spanish, so I can’t help but cringe a bit.
