Cool Product Alert: I personally have many whiskey loving people in my life so I fully understand the water to whiskey ratio and it’s importance, enter Whisky Rocks.
Simply put they’re flavorless cubes that you freeze in your freezer and drop into drinks like whisky or your martini shakers and voila! a drink that you no longer have to chug from fear of dilution. Happy sipping!

Heads up. They are pretty, but definitely not flavorless.
I gave them as a Christmas present to my boyfriend (who the NYT proclaimed a “serious drinker” — how’s that for a top Google search result? Lord.). As obsessed as he is with making, chopping, and sourcing perfect ice, I thought it could be fun to play with an alternative.
On a lark, we tossed them in our champagne on New Year’s Eve. The unmistakable mineral flavor didn’t ruin the wine, but it didn’t improve it either. Granted, whisk(e)y has a more robust flavor profile, but if the point is not to mess with it one iota, then I’m not sure why you’d want to add a taste of minerals.
File under: good idea, imperfectly executed.
PS: For those of you who know the value of a perfectly executed Old Fashioned, make block ice and chop it into large chunks to fit your tumbler. Solves the speed-drink vs. dilution problem. Plus it’s classy.
