What I Did Over My Weekend Vacation, Part III

On Saturday night, we headed uptown for a (rather epic) Hanukkah party thrown by the parents of M.’s very best high school friend.

Eileen, the hostess, is an artist who sculpts and casts pieces in marble, bronze, plastic, just about anything you can imagine, makes jaw-dropping jewelry, and has turned her huge apartment into a trove of treasures. On my last two visits — for Passover and Rosh Hashanah — I was a bit shy about taking pictures, but this time, I went for it.

{M. made macarons to give as holiday gifts: champagne (with gold leaf!) and chocolate ganache. Unreal, right?}

{The main latke station. Conservative estimates put the number of latkes made and consumed in the course of the party at 600.}

{This year’s “latkepet,” a take-home gift made by Eileen, was an elephant. I squealed like a little girl when I saw them arrayed on the bed.}

{I’m particularly taken with this piece.}

{Puts my fluffball to shame.}

{We gave our friends’ kids luchador masks. They dubbed themselves “Good Batman”…}

{And “Bad Batman.”}
