The president is one of the great speechmakers in American history, but I don’t think he has the capacity to whip himself into a fervor over something he doesn’t believe. If you looked at the faces of those West Point cadets, they seemed to reflect the same stolid determination. It reminded me of one of those war movies when the heroes pick up their gear and march off on a mission that they think is necessary but not likely to work out well.
