The Queen Mum as a young heart-breaker. Years later she recalled:

“People were rather inclined to propose to you in those days. You know, it was quite rather the sort of thing, I suppose. And you said, ‘No thank you’ or whatever it was.
[The rejected suitor would often reply,] ‘Oh, I thought you wouldn’t,’ so it was all very nice and lighthearted.”

She turned down Prince Albert, second in line for the throne, at least twice before agreeing to marry him.
Ladies, take note.
