The vegetable soon became a staple of the English kitchen. Queen Elizabeth her- self, some suggest, deserves credit for one of the most popular carrot dishes. When she was given a gift of a tub of butter along with a carrot wreath decorated with diamonds, the Queen removed the diamonds and sent the carrots and butter to her chefs. They prepared a plate of buttered carrots.
