Today is Shelley’s birthday and I’m so happy I can celebrate with her, here in St. Paul. We’re about to drink martinis in the sunny front yard, then we’ll have dinner at our favorite sushi place and dessert back home. I’m making an apple un-pie and Gena brought home ice cream.
The picture was taken 18 years ago at my parents’ wedding. Home video of the day shows a nervous girl — I spent the whole ceremony biting my nails — but it was one of the best days of my life.
