Another memory: on my way to Montessori at age two and a half. Smurfs lunchbox? Check. Sensible boots? Check. Positive Mental Attitude? Er….
You can see it in my face: this is a little girl who has the weight of the world on her tiny shoulders. I think this was one of my first days of daycare after my mom — my full-time caregiver — died.
Now that I’m old enough to see motherhood through the eyes of my peers I am doubly horrified by the severing of that bond. I look back and wonder how a toddler and her daddy could have been that brave.
